Biography "As you walk through the images in Thomas Adams' online portfolio , they move from the grisly to the surreal. A digital illustrator by trade, Thomas displays underneath the themes of his portraits, an exquisite talent for photography, graphic design, and digital manipulation.
In each image, viewers are drawn in by a familiar reference - an arm, a face, a hand, a head - then alternately enthralled or horrified by his digital alterations. Each masterfully created to make a point...perhaps.
Maybe we're supposed to know, maybe we're not, but each definitely leaves a trail of interpretation. And each projects a unique intensity that feels intensely personal."

Statement ‘Though I find traditional realism rewarding, my sensibilities lean more towards the surreal and horrific.” Adams proclaims: "Mankind’s primal instincts are the true grit driving my imagination. It’s more interesting to portray what I see beneath the surface instead of what society places on the outside.”
“To me, the only successful works of art are the pieces that seem un-finished, that make you want more.” His work is reminiscent of Joel Peter Witkin at his finest, making a nightmarish impression upon the viewer often asking more than telling. In describing his process Adams once said: “As my concentration focuses closer and closer to my medium, I’ll begin removing the visual comfort zones, stripping away layers of propriety, bringing the image down to it’s base idea while the room I’m in seems to disappear, time passes at a different pace, and hours later I’m staring at something I hardly remember doing.” | |
