Specialty Digital Artist
Biography Mark Candlin was born in 1962 and has lived in Surrey, the greenest county in England all his life. On leaving school Mark studied at Epsom School of Art and Design and was privileged to be taught by Frank Hampson the creator of Dan-Dare. "Art colleges in the late 70's were a hot bed of creativity, there were no real constraints levied on the students and you were encouraged to pursue your own agenda and style; happy days!" After leaving college Mark worked in advertising as a designer and illustrator but eventually became frustrated by the creative constraints of the industry at that time. It was at this time that Mark became interested in decorative and traditional folk art. This interest led to a series of commissions in murals, trompe l'oeil and sign writing. Mark's latest work is a fusion between traditional and digital art He has recently completed a series of prints celebrating the beauty of rhododendron blooms, inspired after a visit this spring to the National Trust rhododendron gardens at Leith Hill. Mark also undertakes portraiture and house portraits on commission.
Statement "The creative possibilities the digital age has brought to artists in all mediums are simply amazing. It means that a whole new approach to the creative process can take place. Although I work both traditionally and digitally the bias is always towards a traditional feel to a piece of work".
