Biography Rising out of the Dallas suburbs, BDA's childhood was saturated with movies and Saturday morning cartoons. As an artist, twenty years later, movies and cartoons are his primary influences. In the spring of 2003 BigDumbAnimal.com was created as a venue for him to create and display work that is both provocative and sophomoric. And like his influences, the work is accessible and entertaining. Drawing upon film and children’s television, the work combines a colorful sense of humor with an affinity for the taboo, grotesque, and macabre.
Statement Unlike traditional mediums, digital media caters to a sequenced narrative that is not limited to a single static plane or point in time. With its inherently direct relationship to film sensibilities, my digital work utilizes the filmic conventions of editing and mize-en-scène. By drawing upon the influence of film and children's television, I am working to bridge the unfortunate gap between art and entertainment.
